Air New Zealand Launches 1 Million USD Every Corner Project to Support Community-Led Environmental Initiatives Across Aotearoa

Air New Zealand has unveiled the Every Corner Project, a $1 million initiative aimed at supporting community-led environmental projects across Aotearoa New Zealand. Funded through the airline’s Climate and Nature Fund, this project seeks to empower local communities to restore and protect the nation’s unique ecosystems.

Empowering Grassroots Initiatives

The Every Corner Project is designed to back grassroots efforts that focus on environmental enhancement.

Starting from February 27, 2025, registered charities, schools (kura), iwi, and hapū are invited to apply for funding to support a variety of projects, including:

• Planting native trees and plants
• Establishing native gardens, food gardens, or beehives
• Implementing composting to reduce food waste
• Providing nature and climate education
• Conducting predator control
• Restoring and regenerating oceans, beaches, mangroves, wetlands, and waterways

Air New Zealand’s 20 domestic port teams, who are integral members of their local communities, will assess applications within their respective regions.

This localized approach ensures that funding reaches even the most remote areas, fostering inclusive environmental stewardship throughout the country.

Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Kiri Hannifin, Air New Zealand’s Chief Sustainability and Corporate Affairs Officer, emphasized the airline’s dedication to environmental sustainability, stating, “Air New Zealand is deeply connected to every corner of Aotearoa.

While we focus on decarbonizing our operations, we also aim to drive positive environmental change beyond aviation.”

The Every Corner Project aligns with Air New Zealand’s broader environmental strategy, complementing its ongoing decarbonization efforts.

The airline has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050 and has implemented a comprehensive program to reduce its environmental impact.

Focusing on Regional and Rural Communities

A key objective of the Every Corner Project is to ensure that sustainability funding reaches regional and rural communities, which often have limited access to such resources.

By prioritizing these areas, Air New Zealand aims to address unique environmental challenges and opportunities specific to each region, enhancing community engagement and promoting sustainability education.
